Professor Saleem Hashmi

ICOT is very proud to have the benefit of the dynamic leadership of its renowned & legendary founder and Principal (Honorary) Professor Saleem Hashmi.

Professor Hashmi has been employed by Dublin City University (DCU) as the Founding Professor & Head of the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, a position he held since January 1987. During his long and illustrious career with DCU, Professor Hashmi established the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering from green field which involved planning for space, facilities and developing four BEng (Hon's) degree programmes and one taught Masters programme as well as establishing a strong research active school with research student number in excess of 60 in each year over the past 10 years.

Professor Hashmi personally supervised and co-supervised more than 100 PhD and more than 40 research Masters students. Over the past 24 years, while at DCU, Professor Hashmi has developed international standing of very high reputation as an academic and scholar. He has acted as External Examiner for many students, External Examiner for degree courses, member of the course validation and accreditation process, assessor for research grants and staff promotion application materials, for universities in Ireland, the UK, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Professor Hashmi published in excess of 450 scientific papers in refereed journals and international conference proceedings and authored/edited 10 books and book chapters in the area of manufacturing processes and materials technologies. In recognition of his significant contribution to original research sustained over 20 years he was awarded the higher Doctorate degree of DSc by the Univertsity of Manchester in 1995.

Professionally, Professor Hashmi has been an active member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (UK), and the Institution of Engineers of Ireland since 1980 and is a Fellow of both these Institutions (FIMechE and FIEI). He is also a Chartered Engineer (CEng) for about 30 years.
